Coach Utterback is in his second year at Southern Valley. He is a paraprofessional, boys basketball coach, and is in year one as a softball coach. Coach Utterback commented on the differences between coaching basketball and softball. He stated basketball is a longer season than softball and there is more to prepare for. Mr. Utterbackās job provides many challenges as he works with a wide range of students. For example, he has to think differently when working with elementary kids than he does with his high school athletes. His long-term goals are getting the most out of everyone he works with both in the classroom and in the sports realm. Mr. Utterbackās family has also moved into the Southern Valley School system with his wife now teaching HS English. He also has two daughters, AmaLeigh and Gabby who attend SV.

Here is what is going on this week @ Southern Valley. Have a great week SV Nation!!

The college bound juniors presented their letter projects today. They had finished reading The Scarlet Letter in class and created a letter that represented them and their personality and characteristics.

Jennifer Aerni teaches preschool at Southern Valley. She has taught preschool here for 5 years. Her favorite part of this year so far has been the first week of school because she was able to meet and watch all of the new kids as they adjust and have fun. She says a perfect day for teaching would be when every kid listens at the same time. Some advice she would like to give to people who are thinking about teaching preschool is, āSpend time in preschool settings. Make sure it is something you truly love because you might think it would be fun to play with preschoolers all day. There are a lot of emotions in preschool and youāve got to be in the right mindset for it.ā Mrs. Aerni has four children who attend SV and a future Eagle at home.

First graders had to hunt for their treats today! The Candy Corn Bandit tried to trick us but in the end we found our treats!

Mrs. Hunt's third graders had a blast playing reverse charades at their Halloween party! Any guesses based on the pictures?
*One person stands with their back to the board while the rest of the class acts out the word. The one student then gets to guess the word/phrase.

The sixth grade made mummies and hid them for their first grade buddies. The first grade had lots of fun finding their mummies and talking about Halloween. Thank you buddies.

SV students deliver meals on Thursdays to Oxford community. It has been a great experience

Mrs. Aerni's PreK class carved a pumpkin today!
They were amazing scientists while exploring this with their senses and learned how to vote to decide what shapes would be carved.
